One of the main areas of The Highland Homestead is the market garden. Whilst still in development, we are using permaculture and square foot gardening techniques to create a productive area in harmony with the local environment.
The market garden consists of two main areas.
The square foot garden is used for growing large varieties of vegetables and salad crops all year round for ourselves and the local community; with our livestock getting any surplus. The food forest is still young and will hold all of our fruit trees. This will use a permaculture based guild system making use of a plethora of fruit bushes, edible herbaceous ornamentals and herbs for people and animals alike to enjoy.
Together, with companion planting and natural defenses we aim to work with nature and support biodiversity on our farm.
Produce boxes will be available in the near future and can be complimented with our farm fresh eggs and meat. Details of these can be found in our online farm shop.
