Our Story

Owning a farm has always been a dream of ours. This dream came true when we moved from England to Scotland and The Highland Homestead was born. Our vision has always been to create a small farm that works with nature, being chemical free and using sustainable methods to ensure the health of our land and animals.

Both livestock and plants form the main heart of the farm. Animals are raised as nature intended to provide the best quality meat, eggs, dairy and handspun wool. The plants are essential to our permaculture based systems, feeding our animals, as well as producing wonderful fresh produce for our family and the local community.

  • Amy

Amy has a BSc Hons in Equine Science (Behaviour & Welfare) and lots of experience with a whole range of animals. She is currently completing her Master Herbalist qualification as well as a course in permaculture and has a keen interest in Fungi. Amy's main passion is her pigs, rare breeds and rainbow egg laying poultry. She hopes to use her herbology knowledge to create natural foraging systems that allow animals to self-medicate and reap the many benefits herbs provide. When not chasing toddlers around or maintaining our online presence she can be found talking to the poultry and giving the pigs belly scratches!

  • Rory

Rory holds a degree in Horticulture and is our expert on all things plants. He has years of experience in garden maintenance as well as growing fruit and vegetables He is also interested in holistic grazing management and sustainable agriculture. Rory can mostly be found around the farm working on projects and researching various topics to help improve the farm.

  • The Mini Farmers

The mini farmers certainly keep things busy and entertaining on the farm.

Aria loves helping with the hens and has earned herself the nickname "chicken mummy". Her favourite activity is collecting eggs and caring for her silkie flock.

Ryver  is our super farmer. She is out rain or shine helping with the daily rounds and whilst she is tiny she is mighty! Ryver loves to dote on her minature shetlands and is an amazing mini shepherdess.

Lupin  is our resident tractor and tool fanatic. He loves anything machinery or tool related, and enjoys nothing more than working on projects around the farm.

Caspian absolutely loves honey and everything to do with baking...you can guarantee he will be churning out some gorgeous farm made goodies in the future!

Lorien, our littlest farmer, enjoys poddling about the farm and getting to know all of the animals.
